This report delivers statistics relating to all road RTIs reported to the police in Great Britain in 2013.

Statistics are compiled from the STATS19 database of road traffic RTIs.

Key Findings:

  • In 14 per cent of RTIs involving pedestrian casualties, the pedestrian had pedestrian crossing road masked by stationary or parked vehicles reported as a contributory factor.

  • In 6 per cent of RTIs involving pedestrian casualties, the pedestrians had wrong use of pedestrian crossing facility by pedestrian as a contributory factor.

The national road casualty statistics remain the single largest source of RTI data. It includes contributory factors, which give an indication of the role that safe routes for pedestrians might play.
